Imagine for a moment the first time you remember trick-o-treating on Halloween. You were probably excited about dressing up, running around at night with your friends, and the candy! So much candy!!! However, if you have one or more food allergies that candy can be life-threatening. This left many children left out of the tradition out of fear. Enter The Teal Pumpkin Project!
The Teal Pumpkin Project is a signal to trick-or-treating families that a house is offering non-food treats. The goal is letting food allergic children know they can participate when they visit that house no matter what allergen(s) they’re avoiding.
An amazing Food Allergy Mom stepped up to make Halloween inclusive for everyone. Here Becky Basalone, the director of a Tennessee food allergy support group, tells her story of the invention to the Atlanta Area Moms Blog.
